Matheson campaigning at taxpayers expense

Democrat Jim Matheson, spouting Republican talking points, sent out a glossy mailer to Utah taxpayers – at taxpayer expense.

While Matheson has been in office, we have seen an unprecedented expansion of federal spending, borrowing, and debt. Federal budget deficits have exceeded $1 trillion in every year of the Obama presidency, federal spending as a percentage of GDP is at levels not seen since World War II, and the national debt is now more than $16 trillion.

“Jim Matheson’s mailing is an insult to Utah taxpayers precisely because he charged them to send it,” said Thomas Wright, Chair of the Utah Republican Party. “If Matheson is really worried about the taxpayers, he should use some of the $1.2 million in his campaign coffers to reimburse them for this mailer. It would be the fiscally responsible thing to do.”

Matheson voted for Obama’s failed stimulus, voted multiple times to raise the debt ceiling and has voted for (and against – take your pick) one of the most outrageous tax-and-spend programs in history – Obamacare. Yet he sends out a mailer proclaiming that Congress has a moral responsibility to “reduce the deficit,” “cut spending,” and “instill fiscal discipline.” You know it’s an election year when a guy who voted multiple times for Nancy Pelosi starts talking like a Republican. How about this time we send a true fiscal conservative to Washington? Mia Love would be a refreshing change.

Matheson’s mailer, except for the Union “bug”, left out the fact that he is an organized labor toady who has consistently voted for “Card Check” and therefore against Utah’s Right To Work law.

Amazing: after six terms, he’s still running the same reelection plan as he ran the first time.
