Yep. Matheson is toast.

The Salt Lake Tribune just released the poll Robert Gehrke has been teasing all evening. It’s a 12-point lead for Love with 52% to Matheson’s 40%. Undecideds only make up 6% of the vote.

Done by independent firm, Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, the poll found that “the coalition of Democrats, independents, moderate Republicans and women that Matheson has united in past elections is failing to coalesce this time around, with just 9 percent of Republicans crossing over to support him.”

Not only has Matheson relied on GOP cross-over votes, he has also relied heavily on the female vote. Look at his ads (before he went blisteringly negative) – “here’s my Mom,” “oh, look, we can our own food,” and so on. However, the Mason-Dixon poll shows that “Matheson is trailing badly among women, who favor Love — Matheson’s first female challenger — by a 54 percent to 38 percent margin, according to the Tribune poll. Matheson has routinely won by double digits among women voters.”

Matheson says it’s a call to action for his team (to polish their resumes), while Love says she feels encouraged by the momentum. Both campaigns will be on the ground working for the last 4 days, but a 12-point gap is awfully hard to close in less than 100 hours……..(understatement)

Regrettably, I agree with you on this one. Apparently, the people of Utah don’t desire two-party government. We have two senators and four representatives. After this election, it sounds like we don’t want even one of those 6 to be from the opposing political party. That’s even when the one democrat repeatedly votes against what the majority of his party want.

One party government is just fine here. And almost no one will see paradox between this and are constantly whining about how we are losing our freedom. Ha ha ha

The reason we have “one party” government in Utah is because the other party (Utah Democrats) have signed onto a platform of beliefs that is contrary to that of a large majority of Utah citizens. Be objective…compare the Republican platform and the Democrat platform and ask yourself which party reflects the prevailing values of Utahns. It’s not even close.

Don’t quit now. Politics is a lot like MMA; keep pounding until the Ref’ says it’s over. By the way, larrysjensen is spot on about this one.

Mark, have you noticed Matheson’s votes on Card Check organizing (the so-called “Freedom…” bill? Since he has voted in favor of card check consistently, in this case, he would qualify as a Union Toady.

Then, after I posted that card check comment, a news item from back east came up about the fate of some non-union electrical workers who drove up from Alabama. The local IBEW workers called them scabs and wouldn’t let them help out!

Heh. How’d this work out for you?

Not awesome. Kudos to Jim for a stellar GOTV campaign and big thumbs down for Mason-Dixon and their crappy poll.,
